The idea of phd2tech gradually gained steam as Christopher moved along on his journey into tech. After a Voice Engineer and two Sr. Data Scientist positions, graduate students and recruiters inferred that he knew something about transitions to tech. He began to see that there was an opportunity to help students and ex-students become competitive for good jobs. However, it was not until Vanessa (the real entrepreneur) got the ball rolling that phd2tech got off the ground. This page introduces our co-founders in a bit more depth.Dr. Christopher Stewart
From PhD to Tech…
Christopher Stewart, PhD hails from Memphis, Tennessee. After undergraduate degrees in French and Political Science at Furman University in Greenville, SC, he earned a doctorate in French Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009. He spent 4 years as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas-Arlington, then worked at Nuance Communications Text-to-Speech R&D in Belgium for 2 years. After two stints as a Senior Data Scientist, he is now at Google working as an Analytical Linguist in the Ads Human Evaluation and Experimental Design team. He is a passionate and engaged mentor and one of the co-founders of phd2tech.
Vanessa Volpicelli
Vanessa works closely with Chris to assist in providing the TLC portion of our program. With nearly 10 years of experience in the Mental Health field and a Masters in the subject, she is skilled at attending to the emotional material involved in the career, identity, and life shift you are experiencing. You will hear her chime in on calls to facilitate your growth through a lens of sensitivity and compassion.
